How a person is spiritually formed
Many parents both in and outside the church have a strong sense that their children should be raised with a spiritual component. We agree: children--like adults--are spiritual beings and the Bible speaks clearly and powerfully to their development that way. Jesus' prescription for this growth--being dynamically freed from the guilt and power of sin, given a clean conscience and new relationship as a disciple and child of God--is by the work of his gospel in their life. The gospel is the good news that through Jesus Christ, God's kingdom has entered history to renew the whole world by Jesus' life of obedience, his death of sacrifice, and his resurrection from the dead. When we rely on Jesus' work and record for a relationship with God (instead of ours) his kingdom power comes upon us in the person of the Holy Spirit and begins to work through us. Growing as a spiritual person means then to grow more and more to be like Jesus, the most human person who ever lived. To be Christian is to be human in a fundamentally new kind of way. Everything we do at Knowlton is designed to ignite and support the growth and fruitfulness of Jesus' gospel through the work of his Holy Spirit in our lives.
Our weekly First Hour Classes for adults and children of all ages, and Children's Church for children in grades 1-4 during half of worship are places where 1) the gospel is taught, discussed, and applied in all its fullness; 2) the Holy Spirit begins to shape us into the image of Jesus Christ; and 3) we begin to know each other as people precious to God. 
For children there are classes for PreK/K, 1st/2nd Grade, 3rd/4th Grade, 5th/6th Grade, 7th/8th Grade, and High School. Every child--whatever their needs--is welcomed into a loving atmosphere guided by experienced and teachers, where interaction is encouraged and each child is treasured as a unique person of incalculable worth who God made in his image. For adults there are interactive classes covering books of the bible, christian doctrine and life, and cultural engagement taught by one of the pastors or other leaders designed to promote the power of the Holy Spirit as he applies his word to people's hearts in an welcoming and friendly environment.
